In advance of a Feb. 15 House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic hearing, “Assessing America’s Vaccine Safety System, Part 1,” the AAMC joined a letter led by Vaccinate Your Family and other leading public health organizations expressing support for the United States’ vaccine safety systems.
The letter references several instances both before and during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic that reaffirm the importance of intentional, nonpolitical oversight of vaccine safety. “Congress is uniquely positioned to assure the public that your oversight of our vaccination systems is fair and unbiased, keeping our vaccines as safe and effective as possible,” the authors wrote. “We urge you to focus your oversight on how we can expand and better support our vaccine safety systems.”
Witnesses at the hearing included representatives from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Health Resources and Services Administration.
