AAMC (Association of American Medical Colleges) President and CEO Darrell G. Kirch, MD, issued the following statement regarding President Trump’s announcement that he intends to nominate Kelvin Droegemeier, PhD, to be the next director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP):

“The AAMC commends President Trump on his decision to nominate Kelvin Droegemeier, PhD, to be director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Dr. Droegemeier’s background in both research and policy, including his tenure as vice president for research at the University of Oklahoma and his time as vice chair of the governing board of the National Science Foundation, make him highly qualified to oversee the office and to advise the president on matters relating to science, engineering, and technology.

A strong national commitment to research and development benefits all Americans, and Dr. Droegemeier’s expertise will be valuable to the administration in shaping a thriving federal science agenda. We urge the Senate to confirm Dr. Droegemeier and look forward to working with him in the future.”
